The real life characters, both animal and human, that populate this book are all unique and interesting and I ached to know the rest of their stories when the book ended. Lawrence Anthony calls up vivid images of his preserve, Thula Thula, to the point that you feel that you have been there and the combination of his efforts to save the wild animals, the adventures and misadventures of his three canine companions, and the strange political climate he must maneuver through make this narrative as action packed and fast paced as any adventure novel.

And given we haven’t seen Connie for many episodes, this could set up at least part of the story for The Walking Dead’s next few episodes. It is a given that if you love animals or have interest in conservationism, you will enjoy this book, but I honestly doubt there are many people that would not really be delighted with this true story of a man who makes a special connection with a herd of elephants in order to save their lives. The person riding the horse is Virgil, who was last seen with Michonne when he chose to stay behind on the island. She staggers through the forest bloody and dirty and collapses when she reaches the road. She’s alive but looking significantly worse for wear. The scene cuts to a muddy hand in the leaves. Is this potentially set up for their spinoff series? It seems like it just might be. He points out they could still go to New Mexico but she says they "still have things to do" there. She approaches the edge and takes a breath but just before she can walk over, Lydia pulls her away and sits with her in a rock crevice as the horde passes them and falls off the cliff. Carol tells Lydia to go, she’ll lead the horde over. The next day, Carol and Lydia lead the walkers towards the cliff. Lydia says once they do that she can lead the walkers to the cliff. Daryl suggests they go into the horde and take out the Whisperers one by one. The group knows they need to buy the rest of the survivors more time but don’t have a lot of good options. Negan is convinced the situation is hopeless and that no one in the joint communities will ever trust either of them anyway.
